Two of Argentina 's most famous rivers run 25 miles due east of San Martin de los Andes , the Chimehuin and the Quilquihue. We fish the lower Chimehuin where it meanders east in the form of small channels with fast water surrounded by willows and volcanic rock, as well as slow pools on the main channel offering a wide range of possibilities and challenges for our guests to catch these magnificent rainbow and brown trout. The Quilquihue, a third of the size, flows out of the Lolog lake and into the Chimehuin 20 miles North East; this is a freestone stream offering good pocket water fishing during the midseason months, specially when the hexagenia hatches start coming off during January and February.
A big variety of hatches in the morning as well as in the afternoon is an every day experience enabling anglers to fish to their liking, caddis and stoneflies in the early season and mayflies in March and April are the usual dish. The average measure for seasonal trout is sixteen to eighteen inches, although fish over 23 inches are not uncommon. |
